New Jersey car crash ends with one dead, another injured

There are inherent traffic risks that can endanger the well-being of motorists and other people on the road. For instance, although weather conditions are beyond any person's control, drivers should always consider it and exercise caution because weather can cause poor visibility while driving.

A 23-year-old woman died and a 27-year-old man was hospitalized after a tragic pedestrian accident occurred within an hour of Newark, New Jersey. The weekend accident occurred on a rainy night after the victims parked their car on the southbound side of the road near a car wash and attempted to cross the street to attend a social gathering. The two were struck by a northbound car driven by an 18-year-old man.

Responders transported the female victim to a hospital with a severe head injury, but she subsequently succumbed to her injuries. The male victim suffered a leg injury and was taken to another hospital. The car's driver was uninjured. The pedestrian accident remains under investigation.

Besides looking after their own safety, motorists should share the road with caution. The consequences of a pedestrian accident can be serious and devastating. In fact, in a collision with a motor vehicle it is more likely that the driver will leave the scene unscathed. Unfortunately, more often than not, the victim has to shoulder the costs stemming from an accident. Serious or fatal injuries can come with significant medical expenses, funeral costs, lost wages, disability, emotional distress and other damages.

The victim may be considering filing a personal injury lawsuit against a negligent driver and seek compensation. If the victim dies, family members may wish to file a wrongful death claim.
