Slip-and-fall work accident victims deserve compensation

What types of injuries do you typically associate with the manufacturing industry in New Jersey? Workers' compensation claims probably come down the pipeline for machine-related wounds - but the fact is that slips, trips and falls are also much more common than you might think. Employers are responsible for keeping their workers safe from the permanent disability that can result from a slip-and-fall accident - here is how they can make the workplace safer for their valued employees.

Why are slips and falls so dangerous? Slips, trips and falls are among the most hazardous injuries because they can lead to permanent disability. In fact, fall prevention is the most commonly violated workplace safety regulation, according to experts at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. This can not only cause problems for workers, but it can also lead to financial issues for employers.

What can cause slips, trips and falls? There are two general types of falls - falls from a height, such as that from a ladder or stairway, and falls from the same level, or those which are more likely to occur while walking. These problems can be caused by slippery floors, damaged steps, cluttered work environments, and a variety of other factors.

How can slip-and-fall workplace injury accident problems be avoided? Employers are encouraged to promote good housekeeping practices, which can easily prevent a wide range of slip-and-fall accidents. Simply cleaning up after yourself can stop many workers' compensation situations. Proper lighting, reliable fall-protection systems, and other engineering controls may be used to promote safer, more healthful work environments. Victims who have suffered injury because of risky work environments may be entitled to financial compensation if their employer did not take appropriate precautions to protect against slips, trips and falls.
