Work accident victim suffers 30-foot fall at NFL Draft

A New Jersey employee is recovering from job-related injuries after falling from the roof of a stage during the NFL Draft. The 27-year-old man may be eligible for workers' compensation because of injuries associated with the fall. He suffered broken ribs and a lacerated spleen, according to official reports. The injuries occurred in Philadelphia, but the man is employed by a company based in New Jersey.

The company, which does not have a record of safety violations, is now under investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for its failure to protect its worker. The victim reportedly fell 30 feet from the top of the stage. He was transported to the hospital in stable condition. It is not clear whether the man was wearing appropriate safety equipment or if he had been trained to work at such heights.

Victims who suffer workplace injuries because of unsafe working conditions deserve financial compensation for their medical expenses. These employees are often asked to tolerate unsafe rules or operations and work because they feel like they do not have any other option. Negligent employers contribute to the rates of permanent disability and other negative consequences for their employees, and they need to be held accountable.

An OSHA violation can be just the beginning when it comes to workers' compensation claims. In fact, victims can seek redress through the civil court system even if an insurer initially denies the injured party's claim. Without the help of an attorney, though, it can be difficult to fight the big insurance companies. Victims who have suffered serious injuries because of unsafe working conditions do not have to take "no" for an answer. A qualified attorney can provide additional support, allowing victims to recover the damages they need and deserve after they are injured on the job.
