New Jersey pedestrian sustains injuries following mishap

Pedestrians struck by motor vehicles often sustain serious injuries. Pedestrians have little protection compared with those who are inside the vehicle. Recently in Gloucester Township, a man was walking near Eighth Avenue and Black Horse Pike when he was struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian suffered head trauma and was sent to Cooper Hospital.

The accident report states that a pickup truck driven by a 53-year-old Glendora woman was traveling from Eighth Avenue headed to White Horse Pike when the woman struck another vehicle driven by a 65-year-old woman from Marlton. The crash caused the Marlton woman's vehicle to drive onto the sidewalk where it hit the pedestrian.

Upon arrival at the scene, police found the pedestrian lying in the parking lot. The pickup truck was on the roadway while the other vehicle was in the parking lot. The police said that both the driver and passenger of the pickup truck that hit the pedestrian were taken to the nearest hospitals and evaluated. Charges were not pressed as the police continue to investigate.

New Jersey pedestrians in similar accidents may be entitled to receive compensation for medical treatment including therapy and rehabilitation. A pedestrian may file a personal injury claim against the presumed negligent driver to be able to receive compensation. Once a driver's negligence is proven, the driver and their insurance company will be responsible for the assistance required by the victims.

In this case, the pedestrian suffered from head trauma. Head injuries are not to be taken lightly as they can lead to brain damage. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) can drastically alter a person's life. Additionally, the victims of similar incidents may also sue the negligent party for damages like lost wages.
