Thirty-three injured in accident in Essex County

Significant improvement in transportation, vehicular technology, road construction and the precise system of traffic rules cannot ensure safety and protection of all of the people on the road. A single driver's carelessness may cause trouble for others. Sometimes, disaster strikes if a car accident involves multiple vehicles although it may also be the negligence of a single person.

Recently, in Essex County, New Jersey, a 29-year-old local man was charged with drunk driving. According to police, the man was driving while intoxicated. He was driving his Ford Taurus east on Bloomfield Avenue when he crashed into a Toyota that was also heading in the same direction. The second vehicle veered off the road and struck another car. The Toyota then hit a bus with 30 passengers. The Ford Taurus then broke through a guardrail and was found perched on the steep slope of a ravine that leads to a train track.

Thirty-three people were injured in the accident; five were sent to University Hospital in Newark while the rest, who sustained minor injuries, were sent to Mountainside Hospital.

The driver was also taken to University Hospital.

Aside from DWI, the driver was also charged with assault by auto and several other accident-related offenses.

The victims of an accident such as this may put in a claim against the negligent driver. They may be entitled to claim compensation for medical expenses and other damages related to the accident.

According to statistics, there were 556 car accidents in New Jersey last year. These accidents led to 592 fatalities. Many of the accidents were caused by drunk driving and texting while driving. These incidents have incurred immense pain, suffering and grief for the victims and their families. The innocent victims should seek the help of a legal professional to help claim compensation.
